Music has brought such joy to my life and I hope that I can use my talent to bring happiness to others.
How can music be used for a greater good?
The idea.
It all began with an idea. My dad, who is a physician, spends most of his time helping sick people and I started to think about ways that I too might be able to help those who were recovering from illness. After reading about the benefits of music therapy for the elderly, a light bulb illuminated in my head. I wanted to find a way to use my piano-playing skills, which I have worked to develop since I was 4 years old, to help others. Before I had only played my rehearsed pieces during formal recitals to the enjoyment of fellow piano students and their parents. Now I wanted to find a way to use my music for a greater good.
The mission.
I decided that my mission needed a name and after brainstorming several ideas The Noteworthy Project was born. The purpose of the project was to connect with the recreational therapy departments at local nursing homes and rehabilitation centers in the Miami area and surrounding communities and to find a way to bring music into the lives of the recovering seniors who live there. My first visit was to the St. Catherine’s Rehabilitation Hospital and Villa Maria Nursing Home and it was met with much success.
The possibilities.
I have high hopes for The Noteworthy Project. Not only can it be a way for one youth to connect with local seniors, but it can also be a way for other budding musicians like myself to share their music with others. Learning an instrument is a wonderful experience, but being able to use that talent for a greater good makes it even more meaningful and rewarding. Come join me on my mission and let’s make every music note noteworthy!
